I've decided to follow suite with the rest of the bloggers out there and post a list of things that I notice throughout the week - as Ezra Klein calls it a "Tab Dump". But - for those of you who might not be as interested in my less substantial commentary (and please trust me, I have more to say, just not enough time in the day to say it), I have put a clip of the most recent South Park episode at the bottom - seriously - HILARIOUS, but apparently only hilarious to women.
But anyway, here are a couple of things I'd like to share with you:
The Pursit of Harpyness - This is my new favorite blog. I just find them so reasonable and generally welcoming and inclusive in their language. And... I fell for the April Fools joke... seriously I was concerned at the crazyness and relieved and feeling a little dumb at the end.
The Politics of Sex - The key point: "Sex is the elephant in the political room, the big issue that no one wants to talk about in political terms. We demand that candidates for political office tell us their positions on abortion, same-sex marriage, internet pornography, or needle exchange programs, but we don't ask them how they feel about sex, or what they think the basic relationship between government and sex should be."
What Happened to Equality for All? - So, Cathy Young at Reason wrote about Obama's new Council on Women and Girls. I think it's a good read and worth considering her ideas. Not all of them - like how some women are "more likely to choose less lucrative but more fulfilling jobs" - because the pay gap is generally seen within specific professions AND fulfilling is a very subjective term. I say that because I have both worked with preschoolers and moved heavy rocks... at the end of the day of moving rocks I felt very proud and tired, at the end of the day moving preschoolers I felt a yearning to go back to school. Moreover, if there are all these men out there that aren't fulfilled or proud of their accomplishments at work then I would suggest to our president that we need a council on men and boys. But, as with Young, I would like to see our president come up with a few more innovative ideas for this project - because right now, it just seems like a token.
Iowa Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage - I know everyone already knows - but it's exciting to see another victory for equal rights and treatment under the law.
